Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is the third leading cause of death in Europe, with survival rates for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) varying significantly across regions. The Netherlands boasts a 45% survival rate, but other countries, such as Germany (31%), Belgium (26%), and Ireland (25%), lag behind. The HEARTSAFE NWE project aims to address this inequality and ensure equal survival chances for everyone.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What is HEARTSAFE NWE? <\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

HEARTSAFE NWE is an innovative Interreg project dedicated to saving lives by establishing community-based first responder networks. Our goal is to increase survival rates by 10% in the pilot regions of Galway (Ireland), Leuven (Belgium), and the Cologne-Bonn Health Region (Germany).<\/p>\n

Our approach has three pillars:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Understanding the local context<\/li>\n
  2. Training local citizens in CPR and strategic placement of AEDs<\/li>\n
  3. Using an alerting system to quickly mobilize citizen responders, creating a “Heartsafe” ecosystem.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    STAN’s role <\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

    As the technology partner, STAN plays a crucial role in delivering the technical infrastructure for the alerting system. By leveraging the proven Dutch approach, we work with local partners and communities to develop a sustainable and scalable model that saves lives.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Collaboration and support<\/b><\/h2>\n

    The HEARTSAFE NWE project is realized in close collaboration with various partners, including local authorities, healthcare organizations, and foundations in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, and Ireland. The project is supported by Interreg North-West Europe, promoting cross-border cooperation and innovation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    HEARTSAFE NWE is rooted in local engagement. By equipping local authorities with the tools and knowledge needed to manage life-saving infrastructure, we ensure that every citizen has timely access to emergency assistance.<\/p>\n
